Karen’s Bonnet is worked back and forth from the forehead towards the back in smocking st, after a small band of ribbing. The number of sts is increased gradually to ensure that the bonnet fits snuggly around the head. Then, the crown is worked in the round on double pointed needles and it is shaped with decreases. Lastly, a casing for the ties is worked along the lower edge of the bonnet.
