Anker's Hat

Regular price 0,00 DKK

This knitting pattern is in English.

Anker’s Hat is a simple hat constructed with segments of rib. The hat is worked bottom-up in the round, on small circumference circular needles at first, and then the decreases at the top are worked on double pointed needles. However, you can choose to knit all the hat with a longer circular needle using the magic loop technique throughout. Measure the head circumference of the intended wearer to decide which size to knit. As an orientation, the two smallest sizes would correspond to children sizes while the two largest sizes are meant for adults.

Sizes: Fits a 47-49 (50-52) 53-55 (56-60) cm head circumference

Length: 17 (19) 21 (22) cm

Gauge: 22 sts x 29 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4 inches in rib (k 1, p 1)

Suggested needles: 4,0 mm (US size 6) / 30 or 40 cm (12 or 16 inches) circular needles, 4,0 mm (US size 6) double pointed needles to shape the crown (or a longer circular needle if you prefer to work the hat using the magic loop method)

Materials: approximately 50 g of yarn for all sizes

Suggested yarn: Lambswool from Camilla Vad (100 g = 450 m/492 yards) held together with Tilia from Filcolana (25 g = 210 m/230 yards). Alpakka Ull from Sandnes Garn (50 g = 100 m/110 yards).

Cast on 76 (80) 88 (104) sts on 4,0 mm circular needles (30 / 40 cm) using your preferred cast on method. Join to work in the round, making sure that the cast on edge is not twisted. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.

Work 10 (11) 12 (14)  rounds ofrib (k 1,p1), k across 2 rounds.

Work 10 (11) 12 (14) rounds ofrib (p 1,k1), k across 2 rounds.

Work 10 (11) 12 (14) rounds ofrib (k 1, p 1), k across 1 round.K across the next round, while at the same time decreasing by working k2tog a total of 16 (20) 18 (24) timesevenly distributed (= 60 (60) 70 (80) sts).

Work 10 (11) 12 (14) rounds ofrib (p 1,k1),k across 1 round.

Distribute the sts onto four 4,0 mm double pointed needles and continue working the rest of the hat in stockinette st. Shape the crown by working decreases as follows:

* K 4 (4) 5 (6), k2tog*, repeat from * to * until the end of the round. K across 1 round.

Continue working decreases in the same way every second round but with 1 less st between the decreases until 3 sts remain between every decrease. Now work the decreases on every round until 0 sts remain between the decreases.

K2tog across the entire round. Cut the yarn and pull the end through the remaining sts to close the top of your hat. Pull tight and weave in all ends securely.
