Vertical Stripes Sweater
The Vertical Stripes Sweater is worked bottom-up in a (k4, p4) rib pattern. The sleeves are worked by picking up sts around the armhole and working in the round on small circular needles, using the magic loop technique or on double pointed needles. Lastly, a neckband is worked around the neck opening. The Vertical Stripes Sweater therefore requires almost no finishing or seaming.
Because the Vertical Stripes Sweater is worked in rib, it will seem quite narrow while you knit it. To obtain the right measurements it is therefore important to wash/steam the sweater before use, i.e. to block it. You can iron the sweater with a wet towel in between the sweater and the iron (do not iron directly on the sweater unless you have a special steam iron) while stretching it to the right measurements (see above and use a tape measure!). The sweater will retain its shape if you do this thoroughly and let it dry flat. When washing the sweater let it dry flat again and pull it into the right measurements while it is wet.
Therefore, it is important to make a swatch and block it to check the gauge before you start knitting.
Size Guide
The Vertical Stripes Sweater is designed to have approx. 25 cm [9¾ inches] of positive ease, meaning it is designed to be 25 cm [9¾ inches] larger in circumference than your bust measurement. The fit is oversized. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm [31½-33½ (33½-35½) 35½-37½ (37½-39½) 39½-43¼ (43¼-47¼) 47¼-51¼ (51¼-55) 55-59 inches].
The measurements for the finished garment are on the front page of the pattern. Before beginning your project, measure yourself to determine which size to knit. For example, if you measure 90 cm [35½ inches] around your bust (or around the widest part of your upper body) you should knit a size S. A size S sweater has a bust circumference of 114 cm [45 inches] which in the given example would give you 24 cm [9½ inches] of positive ease.
